It’s a fact that laptops get hot, some of them get unbearably hot at times, and if you believe the studies this heat can cause damage to special male parts, and we don’t want that do we? So many companies have come out with products to help keep you and your laptop nice and cool, and this products work and of course some don’t, you’ll have that with any product though. How do we know which ones work and which ones don’t? Well that’s where people like me come in, yes I’m willing to sacrifice myself and possible irreparable damage for the sake of testing products like these for you! (I’ve had three kids, so I don’t think it matters much anyway….)

Today for review I’ve got the SilverStone Noble Breeze NB01 Notebook Cooler, and like all products from SilverStone it’s very well made, and it’s aesthetically pleasing as well. Besides those fine attributes, the Noble Breeze actually works at keeping your laptop cool, and it’s virtually silent while it works.

So continue on…

First up I’ve got the video unboxing for you and a few still pictures, check it all out and move on..

The Noble Breeze is rather large and bulky, so some people might not like traveling with it, but it is very well made, as are mostly all SilverStone products. Your laptop sits up at a 12 degree angle, which for me personally is a bit high if it’s on a table, but when in my lap it seemed fine. Yes you can use the Noble Breeze on your lap if you wish, it’s very sturdy and has a flat bottom so it will balance well.

There are two USB ports on the back of the Noble Breeze, one is for power to the fans and the other is for your own uses so you don’t lose access to your USB port.

The front of the Noble Breeze does have a lip that extends up to prevent your laptop from sliding off, I personally didn’t have a problem accessing the DVD drive, it just barely cleared the lip of the cooler. Though that was a replacement drive, if I had been using the original CDRW drive it would not have cleared the lip as the front face of the drive extends down farther. So that’s something to keep in mind for those of you that have DVD/CD bays in the front.

Well onto the actual testing to see if this thing actually cool your laptop. My laptop is an older one, Dell Latitude C640 (yeah I know I need a new one) but it works for me for basic stuffs, and it has an Intel P4-M 1.8GHZ CPU in it. The first thing you’ll notice when you turn the Noble Breeze on is the lack of sound, I had to pick up the laptop and check to make sure the fans were running as that’s how quiet they are.

Ambient temperature during testing was 21.7C.

To get load on the CPU I used Orthos Stress Prime running Small FFTs.

Now you’ve got to remember one thing about this, using Orthos puts 100% load on the CPU, so that’s the high end of extreme really, not many people are going to be running their laptops at 100% CPU usage all of the time, but the test does give us a nice idea of what to expect in terms of cooling abilities of the Noble Breeze.

So here’s a graph, if you noticed in the pictures my laptop was just on a wooden table, and that’s what was used for testing.

As you can see from the results the Noble Breeze does a very decent job of cooling my laptop, not bad at all, not super cooled, but it does as intended, it cools the laptop.

So it works!
