There are some gadgets and products that I really like out there, and monitors, specifically LCDs have to be on the top of the list. I run three monitors for my setup, and now with what I have for review today I’ve got four monitors running. You might wonder why all of those monitors, but once you go more than one you just can’t go back to using a single monitor. They just allow you to do so much more and be much more productive really, no more flipping between windows or tabs, everything is right there for you in front of your to plainly see. My three main monitors are setup 20” – 23”  – 20” going across my desk, yes I have a big desk and I like it, but now I’ve run out of room so I have to go up for my fourth monitor, and I didn’t need a big monitor to be the fourth in my set, something smaller would do just fine.

Today for review I’ve go another product from our friends at Geeks.com, it’s a monitor from a company that I’ve never heard of before, the company is Eizo, and from what I’ve seen so far they make some nice monitors. The one I got for review though is the Eizo FlexScan L695 19.1” LCD Monitor that is capable of running 720P resolution and has both DVI and VGA ports and even a USB port as well. This monitor is just feature packed with things like a rotating display for portrait of landscape mode, picture in picture so you can actually hook two computer up to one monitor and something they call ActiveShot which actually focuses lower resolution images, programs etc when you run them at the full 1280 resolution. In my time with the monitor I’ve truly grown to like it very much, the colors are perfect, I plugged it in and it needed no adjustments at all. So read on to learn more about an inexpensive and feature packed monitor…

This monitor I got from Geeks for review is a refurbished unit so it comes in a white box but it’s packaged very well.

Underneath the padding we find the monitor wrapped in plastic.

DSCF9369

This monitor is heavy, and it’s not the monitor itself though it’s stand that makes up for quite a bit of the weight.
vDSCF9373 DSCF9374

On the bottom front center of the monitor is where you’ll find a bunch of buttons to access the menus, navigation and the picture in picture function as well.

DSCF9377

The stand is telescopic, and the monitor can rotate on it as well so you can change from portrait to landscape easily.

DSCF9378 DSCF9380 DSCF9381

There is a power button on the front panel, but there’s a main power button located on top corner of the monitor on the back.

DSCF9385

This monitor features DVI, VGA and even a USB connection as well. The UBS connection is hid behind the stand, it’s the kind that you would find on a printer. The monitor I received came with a VGA cable and a power cable, no DVI though.,.

Even though this monitor is refurbished, I found no marks of any kind, it looks brand new honestly.

Here’s my set up as of now, I have the Eizo up off to the right, I use it for email and using my Zune interface to listen to music and I toss the volume controls up there as well. It’s a nice secondary monitor to get some of the non-essential work stuff out of my way.

DSCF9397

I had to use no flash to get a good picture of the monitor for you. The colors look good in this picture, but not as good as they do in real life truly. This is the first monitor I’ve ever gotten where it was perfect when I plugged it in.

DSCF9407

Here’s the monitor in the Portrait mode, my wallpaper doesn’t quite fit now.. oh well.. Sadly it doesn’t magically rotate, you’ll have to go into the settings of your video card and hit a button or two to make it look right, no big deal though…

DSCF9709

There are more settings on this monitor than I’ve ever seen on one, this thing has more settings than my HDTV I think…

Some of the LEDs on monitors can be very bright, like my Soyos where I’ve put tape over the LEDs, this monitor even allows you to turn it off.

The picture in picture feature is cool. You can of course move the position of the PIP around wherever you want and instantly switch between them just by pushing the button on the front panel.

DSCF9705 DSCF9706 DSCF9707

What you see about is not even all of the options that are available to you!! There’s many more to play with if you want to.

This monitor is selling at Geeks for $79.99 and I think it’s well worth it, it’s got a beautiful picture, no ghosting, no nothing honestly, just pure beautiful, crisp colors. I would swear it’s a brand new monitor by the looks of it and how it acts.

I used this monitor for everything, I switched over to it for some gaming, and even watching movies, everything looks great on this monitor honestly. It’s crisp, it’s clear, it’s bright, blacks are dark black, whites are very white. It’s got a better picture than my 23” Hannspree HF327 that received decent reviews. I can’t say enough good things about this monitor really, though if I could get this same monitor in a 23” or 24” version I’d be one happy boy!

DSCF9368 DSCF9373 DSCF9381 DSCF9382

Conclusion:

Honestly I could find nothing at all wrong with this monitor, it works perfectly, it looks beautiful and it’s a just a great monitor really. It’s packed with features that any one will appreciate, and you’ve got a plethora of settings to change and play with to make it exactly how you want it.  I can easily recommend you head over to Geeks and grab one of these before they sell out.

Eizo may be a new name in the LCD world, but they were (are still?) a world leader in professional CRT displays.
It is wonderful to see that they appear to have made the transition to the newer technology. It would be logical to expect them to expand their product portfolio to include larger screens.

  • tedinde

Eizo is not new to LCD’s. I bought my first 17″ LCD from them in 2000, a flexscan 17. They were actually high end professional. I still have it today and it’s doing duty in my garage for aut0motive manuals and parts ordering. Covered in grease and dust but works fine.

  • tedinde

Read the history. They’ve been around forever. First LCD 1993, http://www.eizo.com/global/about/history.html

I never said they were a new company.. did I? I just said I never heard of them… sorry for mentioning it… maybe I should edit that part out as that’s all that everyone seems to notice about this review… The reason I got it for review was because I never heard of them and wanted to try them out.. How can someone possibly know everything about everything?

  • tedinde

Kristofer, You did a great job on the review. I used to review a lot of new stuff in forums and got free stuff from good reviews over 5 years ago @xtremesystems and overclockers. I just loved my first eizo so much i was letting you know about them. You cant know everything about everything.
The reason most people never heard of them was they were commercial and expensive. i bought mine referbed. Keep up your reviewing. And do a search for the company and you’d be surprised how long a lot of companies been around. good luck in the future
