Netflix Expands Support for Android-Powered Smartphones and Tablets

All I have to say is that it’s about time Netflix comes to more Android devices, it’s a bit ridiculous that it was so limited. The new app adds support for tablets running Android 3.x and, for the first time, lets Netflix members inCanada and Latin America instantly watch TV episodes and movies streaming from Netflix on their Android-powered smartphones and tablets. I’ve already got it on my tablet and phone thankfully, but I did have to wait what seemed like forever.

The new Netflix App for Android adds Android 3.x-powered tablets to the list of Android devices supported by Netflix in the U.S. and significantly increases the devices supported by Netflix in Canada and Latin America. Netflix members can access the service on their Android devices by installing version 1.5 of the Netflix App, available as a free download in the Android Market™. Android-powered smartphones are rapidly gaining in popularity. Analyst firm Gartner Inc. expects Android will account for 49 percent of the smartphone market by 2012. Android-powered tablets are an emerging, but rapidly growing category.

Netflix is the world’s leading Internet subscription service for enjoying TV episodes and movies. Netflix members can instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies streaming over the Internet to many devices including PCs, Macs, Internet-connected TVs, game consoles, Blu-ray disc players and mobile devices. In all, more than 700 devices that stream from Netflix are available in the U.S. and a growing number are available in Canada and Latin America.

Netflix offers convenience and value with a broad range of Hollywood, international and local movies and TV series to choose from. Netflix has revolutionized entertainment by giving people a choice to enjoy what they want to watch, when they want to watch it for a low monthly price over the a wide-range of Internet-connected devices.

"We’re always looking to provide members new ways to enjoy Netflix," said Peters. More details on the devices that support Netflix is available on: http://www.netflix.com/NetflixReadyDevices?cid=Mobile+Devices
